Kindly share a few words about your journey?

I come from a family with a business background. After I finished my graduation in computers I was really not interested in my family business. I wanted to start something on my own and wanted to have a corporate kind of career. So I started a Microsoft training institute, it was one of the first of its kind back then. Initially, it was running well but later I made the mistake of not changing with the time. I didn’t have the growth mindset to adopt with the time so I closed it down after 5 years. I informed my parents who are wonderful people by the way about my new decision and they seemed to be very supportive. I asked them whether I could go to Bangalore and start a corporate career. They agreed and told me that I could come back when I get bored. It’s been 20 years with companies like America online, Bank of America and now with ANZ. I haven’t got bored yet and things are going well so far. Over time I developed an interest in different perspectives like photography, scuba diving, trekking, theatre and I am also a part of the running group. I have done a few things along with ANZ as well.

What do you considered to be your biggest personal and professional achievement?

It is very interesting because I actually won a Hot Chicken Wings contest in Charlotte, US. In the game, we were supposed to eat the maximum number of chicken wings in a minute. The chicken wings were supposed to be super hot; there were three different varieties of wings out of which one is normal, the other one is hot and the last one is extra hot. The extra hot version is something I was supposed to have, but for Indians that was considered to be sweet because we Indians eat spicy food. I won that contest; my photograph is still there on their wall of fame. It was a pretty cool experience.

One more achievement which I considered to be very sweet is that once when I went for an NGO conference a couple of years back, it was a two-day conference and we had people from all over India attending it. At the end of the conference a lady from some other city, who is about 70 years old has told me that  ‘Pankaj if I had met you 45, 50 years back I would have fallen in love with you’. I thought that was a sweet comment for her to make.

I think apart from my work I have been able to make time to pursue my personal interests also. I did a solo photography exhibition in March 2019 at Honeycomb Art Gallery. I thank Noufel and the entire team for inviting me to conduct a solo exhibition for the first time in my life. From the photography perspective, I have won many awards. It includes awards from The Spider Black and White organization, which is a global award, and I am also a certified photographer by the Photographic Society of America for their Color and Travel photography. Apart from photography, I have done several half Marathons and I am training for the full marathons next year. I am part of a group called Runners High in Bangalore; we meet very often during the week and we train for running marathons. I also have an international certification for scuba diving called PADI certification.  I have also done a basic theatre workshop with Organizational Theatre Ranji David in Bangalore. I have been part of a couple of stage shows with the same organization and I am really proud of that. I was invited by IIM in Ranchi to deliver a speech to their students I was never been able to do IIM and MBA myself. It was pretty cool that they thought I could give a motivational speech to the students. I also have few certifications like Six Sigma black belt certification. I have several procurements from Bank of America, COPC, etc. I currently manage a large global procurement organization. It is a great team and we have tie-up across multiple countries.

What is the turning point of your life? Tell me an incident where you were persistent in face of obstacles?

There are many turning points in my life but if I have to pick one then it would be when I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis about five years back. MS is not a well-known condition basically it is an autoimmune disorder, which affects the central nervous system. There is a condition called demyelination where my own immune system attacks the nerve or the coverings of the nerve called myelin, thinking it is bad. That nerve gets exposed depending on which nerves get affected that part of the body gets affected. There has been no known reason for why this happens and no known cure for MS as well. I think research is still going on, every day and every month we hear about new research findings, let’s see what happens in the future. It is obviously the biggest turning point of my life and I just want to prove to myself that I can do everything I always wanted to do. The most interesting part is all this happened after I was diagnosed with MS. So be it photography, training for a marathon, scuba diving, MENSA group, theatre, trekking whatever I have done from a personal perspective I have done pretty much after I was diagnosed with MS. It is something that I took it as a personal challenge where I wanted to just prove myself that I could still do all those things.

What are the advises you want to give MS diagnosed people to keep up their inner spirit?

I am not an expert to give advice but I will tell you what I try to follow, it is from a poker card game. It’s a game of skills not gambling; it’s proven in a court of law, believe me. Anyway so in poker you are dealt with two cards at the beginning, the strongest cards are supposed to be 2 aces and what I think is that life is not going to give you 2 aces every time. So I try to do the best with the cards that have been dealing with. It is not possible that all of us will get 2 aces because there are not so many aces in one pack. There is no question of self-pity, it is very negative and can get you down. Have a positive mindset always and don’t take yourself too seriously. Should always have everything is chalta hai kind of approach and realize that nothing is impossible. Whatever you put your mind to and if you work towards it nothing is impossible in spite of whatever your condition is. I have this theory where mind, body, and soul which are the three major components in one’s life. Whether you are sick or not all of us should do something, which exercises your mind, body, and soul on a regular basis, daily or weekly. I think nothing can go wrong and the world will be a lovely place.

How do you raise funding for MSSI group?

MSSI stands for Multiple Sclerosis Society of India, basically, a group of people diagnosed with MS. What we do exactly is that we help people with MS for their physiotherapy sessions, we have medical camps, which we arrange once a month where the doctors meet up with the patients and discuss any issues they have. We have doctors to give the actual medical prescription. We do everything to support and to lead a better life and a lot of money is required for that. So what we do is that we go around asking corporates to sponsor us and many corporates have been really nice to us over the last few years to support us in our mission. Of course, we always want more but they have been very kind to us. Apart from that we also have an annual photography exhibition, which is conducted by a group of photographers called TGIS  (Thank God It’s Saturday), which basically comprises of all the students of Mr. Anand Sharan whom I also learned photography from. We have this exhibition once a year where we exhibit and sell these photographs. The money raised from that goes towards MSSI funds The solo exhibition I did with Honeycomb Art Gallery was also in support of MSSI funds and all the profits, which came out of that, are about a lakh and half. So having said all that if any corporate is seeing this who is actually willing to adopt us please let me know.

How did you develop interest in marathon running, trekking, and scuba diving a midst of your busy schedule?

I did all these things because I was curious, I wanted to learn new things and pursue my interests in what I like. I was very lucky to have got these opportunities my way, I pursued them and it was a very special feeling when we do something for the first time. Be it when you first complete your marathon, you do your first scuba dive or you do your first trek or you do your first photography exhibition whatever it might be, it is a very special feeling, they say the first cut is the deepest. From a time perspective if it’s important to me I will find the time and if it’s not important to me I will not find the time. If time is up you will not be able to pursue your interests and hobbies.

Tell us about your MENSA international experience?

MENSA is basically a global organization; it tests your intelligence, if you are found to be in the top two percent of intelligence in the world population then you are invited to be part of that organization. I was lucky to have invited by them. I think it’s been great because it is an excellent resume material. If it is mentioned in your resume that you are a part of MENSA then it’s great and useful for showing off. You can show off to your friends and family that you are a part of MENSA. I am also a certified MENSA proctor. If anybody is interested in becoming or trying out for MENSA I will be more than happy to help.

What do you think will be the reason why people call you a ‘confused photographer’?

Confused photographer!! That’s interesting. I learned photography with Mr. Anand Sharan about five years back. Like all photographers, I have been trying different genres of photography one by one. But I think over the last couple of years I like travel photography the most because the first reason is that I travel a lot because of work. The second reason is that it forces me to do research about new countries, new locations, new cultures, and new scientific facts, which I am not aware of. So I think travel photography is something that I like to pursue more.

What is that one lesson you learned as a student, a photographer, and a parent?

Few lessons that I have learned from my experiences are:

From a student perspective, we are all students and we all are learning every time in our lives. Every moment is a learning moment. I think we all should have a growth mindset to learn new things in life and to have a curious attitude is very important. One should also have a sense of ownership about what you do so basically it’s not about having ten people do the same thing. If you need to learn something, you need to take something, fully own it end to end and take it to the finish line is what I think I want to do at least. That is to be open to new things and should always find new innovative ways of doing something different or do the same thing in a better way. Innovation I think is very important for all of us to learn to do things better and differently.

And as a photographer, I once read a saying which goes like don’t shoot how you see it but shoot how you feel it that made a big impact on me. That’s what I try to do when I go to a new location; I try to capture the essence of the place before I start taking photographs if that is possible. And also as a photographer, I learned that we have to remove what is clutter and noise in the photograph. Try to remove that, focus on the primary subject and I think that is something, which has worked for me. Like I said before when you go to a new location, it is required to do research and drive information from the Internet about the new place or talk to a few people. You should know what is the essence of the place, what is that place stands for, what is their culture and try to capture all that in a frame, I think that is very important. And also learn new scientific facts like how the star moves in a night sky etc. When I went to shoot The Great Wall of China, one of my Chinese colleagues told me that an interesting fact about it is that ‘if you haven’t walked on the wall of China you are not a real man’. So I find it very interesting.

As a parent, I think there is no perfect parent in this world but I have two lovely daughters, one is doing her MBBS and the second is in her 10th grade. One thing I try to do is be the person my daughters want me to be and I think that is the best thing I can do.

What is your life mantra or life motto?

I feel nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it and work towards it.  I think one should wisely pick your battles, not every battle is worth fighting for. Always be positive and don’t take life so seriously and also look at things from another’s point of view like why is he saying what is he saying etc. I strongly believe that what happened in the past is great, what is happening now is great and what will happen tomorrow will also is great. They should always be positive about whatever happens in life. What happened to me is that opportunities come knocking at my door pretty often from different areas even though I may not pursue it I at least open the door and say hello.

Home / Blogs / Learn How to Maintain work-life Balance from Mr. Shankar Subramanian, Nine Dots(Founder)

Kindly share a few words about your journey?

My journey started off as a hospital management profession. So I spent three years learning hospitality management and I was selected by Taj Group of Hotels as a management trainee in the year 1990. I spent the next five years with Taj Group in various roles like operations, human resources, training and at the front office. Post that I decided to take a small break after I lost my dad. I needed to support my family so I took two years off by teaching hospitality management. After that, I went back to the industry as a training manager for next few years. So that’s my initial start where I learned the aspects of customer service. I also learned about the aspects of management, attended lot of training programs and then I got very curious about learning development as a career.  At that time I was thinking that how can I take it to the next level.

What made you go in to the field of corporate training?

In the year 2000, I started Ninedots corporate training. I was very disappointed when there was a huge recession because of September 9/11 globally. I had decided that I would be looking at IT recruitment and corporate training as a main source of business. You know when they talk about success, people normally ask you why you are doing what you are doing and after you become successful they ask you, how you did it. Around 2003, I decided to call off my recruitment business because I was feeling that it was not something that I was passionate about or that was not where my future supposes to lie.  Then I decided to move completely into corporate training. It took me ten years to really establish nine dots with a lot of hard work and perseverance. With a great team behind me to support and we got many recommendations for our customers. When there is a slow down in economy the first thing to get hit is the learning and development sector. We have a dedicated team that stuck to us through our toughest time. We are 20 years old firm and we are known amongst all the top corporates in the country. We are one of the people whom they considered in finalizing any of their learning dimensions.

What keeps Ninedots going? Your company Goals, Inspirations USP and Vision?

I have read a book called You in Corporation, it says that consider yourself as a company. If you want to increase the share values of your company, what would you do and this has been something that was stuck in my head over a long period of time. According to me the most important factor in my career is learning. In the year 2007,I got myself certified in 6 Thinking Hats and Lateral Thinking from Doctor Edward DePaulo and later on I went myself to be certified in the area of mind mapping from Tony Buzan, one of the greatest leaders in the area of thinking. The name Ninedots come from a puzzle where we need to join the nine dots using four straight lines without lifting the pen from the paper and the answer lies in going out of the box. So one of the thing we try to do at nine dots is that what value can we give to customers, how can we do things differently, what services can we do and how can we adapt to the changing environment. People are living in what we call a wooka world, a world that is constantly changing and dynamic. So this requires completely new skills for them to be adapting, people need to be agile, people need to be innovative and this is something that I kind of forecasted way back in 2005. Now there is a lot of inquiries for workshops on innovations, thinking outside the box, problem-solving, critical thinking and leadership in the wooka world. So I and my team has got this expertise to be able to deliver these scales that we can enable the corporate world to survive and to succeed in the wooka world.

Name the single most important quality required to succeed in your ever-evolving industry?

I personally feel one of the things that really help you to succeed in the present environment is the ability to adapt. When you say adapting it means that not sticking to your own ways of doing things, you are innovative, you are challenging your status too. You will have to ask these questions how can I do things better, what else can I do here and how can I add value to my customer. If you can have these questions in the back of your mind, any business you will be able to do well.

What do you consider as your greatest achievements in your career?

See one of the things I really feel is that I have been able to do is create a wonderful team that is self-motivated and self-directed.In our company we are like friends not as a leader or a follower. We work on our projects together, we brainstorm together and through this we have been able to retain customers for many years. I have one customer whom I have been working since 2004, it has been fifteen years now. This kind of customers satisfaction is something that I have been proud of and we will be very successful in it.

What are the most significant factors you consider while catering to your customers?

Today the customers that we engage are very knowledgeable. They have all the information available, there is Google, books, E-books. This was not the case 20 years back where knowledge was at scarcity. Now the question for us is that with all this knowledge and information available, what is the development team going to do with the customer. In spite of having all this information available in the organization there is a constant need for us to see how we can understand our customers’ needs, clients needs and tailor our offerings constantly to meet our customers wants. So we are constantly working in partnership with customers rather than saying we have this product and you need to try this. We customize our training program to meet customers’ needs and that is what makes us successful.

Who or what is it that constantly inspires you?

I actually did a personal analysis of myself and I did a psychometric test and I found out that one of my key value is helping others. I could see why I enjoy corporate training so much because every day I am in the job of trying to enable and help others whom I am interacting with. I also find that this seems to not only limit myself to work but apart from work I also am a rotractarian, I work with many projects to help the society. I am the member of Multiple Sclerosis society where we help people affected with Multiple Sclerosis , we are trying to build awareness about the diseases. I also formed a group called TGIS (Thank God It’s Saturday), where we try and mentor amateur photographers to create a platform for them to thrive and practice their skills. So in all these tasks I find happiness in helping others.

What is the role played by your family in your pursuit of a demanding profession?

My family consists largely of entrepreneurs. My wife, brother , mother is also an entrepreneur. I learned from them how to set high goals, perseverance and work through various challenges. Each one of them is an inspiration for me and I learned a lot from all of them. They have always been a support system, whenever I took risks they were backing me so that I could focus on my goals. Even during my challenging times, they were there to back me up.

How do you maintain the work-life balance?

I always say that when you enjoy your work then there is no work, there is only life. There is a lot delegations which happens, I enable people both my team members and people whom I work with and my NGOs as well. I spend time in coaching and mentoring so that I can focus on the key things that are important in my life. I spend around 10 to 12 days in a month working for nine dots. The remaining days I spend working on social causes like the Rotary club and Multiple Sclerosis Society and also to pursue my hobby as a photographer. If we plan ourselves properly we can manage all this things effectively, therefore, it is very important for us to know what we want in life and one should sort this all out.

1 or 2 must-read books to your friends and peers? Why?

The first book that really inspired me is a book called ‘You in Corporation’ and it had given me the idea of how you could increase your own personal value in fact a very inspiring book. Another book which inspired me was ‘Six Thinking Hats’ by Edward de Bono. When I read the book it was so interesting that I got myself certified in his program and I am a certified trainer now. These two books which I aforementioned were on personal development. But apart from that I love reading biographies , watching movies on biographies because we get to learn a lot things from other people’s life. If I have to recommend something to people then I would say that do study people’s life.

Any advice you would like to give your younger self?

Information was not easily available in earlier days, little did we know about what we could probably pursue our career in. So decision making was very difficult at that point of time. Now information is available in plenty so youth of today can weigh the pros and cons of what data is available with them for their own personal development and can take a good decision. The youth of today have much better positions compare to the times that we were in. Back then information was very scarce and it was only a privilege to have information available to you.

Based on your personal experience, whats’s your suggestion or advice to young entrepreneurs and startups?

The advice is that you have a goal, you work hard towards it.  You won’t be success at the first try ,you may fail but let this failure may not get you demotivated. Believe in what you are, what is your overall vision and idea is, keep pursuing it , give it your 100% and believe in your vision. I am sure it will be a success.

How did you get into photography?

My dad bought a brochure of hassle black in which I saw some amazing photographs and immediately I was drawn to the art of photography. Over a period of time, my dad got me a basic camera with which I practiced. Only later ,I could afford a decent SLR of my own. I started from the film days so I was also interested in nature and wildlife at that point in time. I could combine both this art of photography as well as the appreciation for nature and wildlife. Later I met Mr. Anand Sharan, with his mentorship I also developed my photography skills. It was the time during the transitioning from film to digital was taking place. The digital cameras were slowly gaining momentum. It threw open a whole lot of new possibilities of being able to experiment. It allowed us to make mistakes and learn from mistakes. All this was not possible doing the film days because it was expensive to make mistakes.

What are the events you do ?

Few of us got together and we started a group called TGIS, a platform for young amateur photographers to come and practice their skills. Most of them were the people who basically finished their workshop with Anand Sharan. As we started looking at the possibilities we thought why not we exhibit our pictures and we had our first exhibition in 2013. In that exhibition we were able to sell our pictures, we also decided that the entire profits of our exhibition will go towards the social cause. We also decided that the Multiple Sclerosis Society will benefit from this income. We were able to earn 5 to 7 lakhs every year through the sales of our pictures and through the support of the members of TGIS , who has selflessly donated their photographs for the cause. Not only people feel happy about the fact that they get to exhibit their pictures but also the fact that they get to help for a social cause.

What is your advices for upcoming amateur photographers?

The young photographers should master the basics and should get the fundamentals right. Second is to find their own style, while you can be inspired by other photographers by watching and observing them. One needs to find what is their core passion because lot of photographers are confused about which genres of photography to choose. So when you experiment with it, you should settle into something finally, start mastering in it and doing a lot more. One of the thing I feel is that you should shoot more, making more mistakes and learn from those mistakes , these are the most important part of the learning journey.

Kindly share a few words about the awards you have received?

I was also fascinated by traveling. After a point of time I felt that wildlife was not really my calling I started experimenting with travel photography. Not only it gave me chances to visit various places in the world but it also gave me a chance to understand the cultures. Slowly I started getting more and more involved in travel photography. I have won many international awards like the International Color Awards and the famous Black and White Spider Awards. These awards has always been enforcing and encouraging me. Especially in a very competitive world if one gets appreciated in international forum you get little more confident and with this you strive for better work as you go along . One of the things I realize is the constant need for learning whether it a profession or passion one needs to be ensuring that you constantly learn. The moment you decide that you know everything I think you are finished!

6 Reasons Why Graphic Design is more important to your Business than you Think!

As a business owner, you may have hundreds of concerns to address during your day-to-day work, so you might be tempted to ignore the need for expertly crafted graphic designs. However, utilizing professional graphic designs can be an integral step in the process of establishing and maintaining a successful business. The six points listed below emphasize how important graphic design is to your business.

Brand Recognition

Your company’s brand image starts with a well-designed logo and expands to every aspect of your business. The design needs to target your audience in a way that is functional, attractive, and professional. Your brand should provide an instant connection to the outstanding products and services that you offer, and you need an excellent graphic design to forge that kind of connection.

creative graphic design

Company Unity

Your employees will be surrounded by stationary, company web pages, uniforms, publications, and more. If you want a happy and healthy workplace, your employees will need to bind together behind the designs that you select to represent your brand. Building your company identity starts on the inside, so your employees must be committed to the brand. A good graphic design can strengthen that sense of commitment.

Professionalism

You want your company to make a good impression on clients, vendors, and other entities, a logo for example only has a fraction of a second to make a first impression. A design that looks cheap will cast an unfavorable light on your business, and it can be difficult to break the impression that your company cannot afford a professional design.

Communication

The usefulness of graphic design extends beyond your logo and your website. Graphic design can produce visual aids that will help you communicate your ideas. An informative image can transmit ideas that cannot be expressed with words alone. You can use professionally designed images to create a positive impression and to avoid misunderstandings.graphic design services

Efficiency and Productivity

Badly designed graphics can negatively impact a worker’s productivity and general workplace efficiency. The website is the area where signs of a bad design are most likely to be observed. A practical design should include useful features, such as easy navigation, legible fonts, and appropriate colors. A website with blinding colors, tricky fonts, or hidden navigation will be a headache for clients and employees.

Money

Badly designed graphics can be very expensive. If you go for a cheap design, you might get a lackluster product when you print. If the design is not ready for print, you might end up spending more money on a new design. Additionally, a competent graphic designer will create a design that is not too expensive to produce. You do not want to spend a significant portion of your budget on a bad design. Fortunately, there are many modern methods, such as crowdsourcing, for obtaining professional and attractive designs.

Ignoring your organization’s graphic design needs can negatively impact clients, vendors, and employees. Utilizing an appropriate design can improve every aspect of your business. Consider the six reasons listed above before underestimating the importance of graphic design to your business.

Home / Blogs / Journey to Success | An Inspiring Story by Smitha Sailesh, Chartered Accountant | Game Changers

Kindly share a few words about your journey.

I did my Charted Accountancy course in Mumbai, after marriage I shifted to Bangalore. My first job was at a company in Bangalore. I was been appointed as the account head for two companies. Then after my son was born, about two years’ time I shifted to practice. I think that was the best choice I ever made because I could spend quality time with my son and my family. I started my own practice with whom I used to work part-time. Eventually, I started building my own practices and connections. Right now I have 21 years of practice.

Is this a field or a career that you chanced upon or choose to pursue?

I chanced upon my career because 25 years back, there was nobody to advise me, there were no professionals in my family to advise me about what career I should choose. I didn’t want to get into Science and Arts career so I was left with the only option to apply for Commerce. Once I entered the college I used to see a lot of people, especially my seniors going for charted accountancy courses. I started enquiring about it and I decided to try my luck at it. That was the only thing that inspired me to choose the CA course.

What inspired you to start your own firm?

CA’s basic job itself is an audit, taxation, and accounting. As I started enjoying my journey towards being a CA, the next concern was whether to work or to practice. Work as I said it was not giving me the leverage that I need to have.  I thought I should be better at being my own Boss rather than saying yes Boss to somebody else, which gave me a lot of confidence. The practice was the best option if given a chance to go back to a job or a practice I would rather choose practice only.

Your USP or your competitive advantage?

My clients tell me that they like to hear the advice from me, they say I give them the right advice. I am available to them whenever they need me. I have heard from my clients that recently three people shifted to me because their previous CA didn’t have time for them or to listen to them. I am a person who listens to people. Even though I don’t have a very big client line, I want to give the best services to the existing clients. So my USP is that I have time for my clients.

What are your goals and what keeps you going?

My goal is to increase my clients and to have a big company to audit. To give them the best service, increasing the client list is not the only goal, it is to even have time for your own clients. Only then they will start respecting your CA. I increase the client list little by little not too much at a time because I need to have time for my family also therefor I can’t devote 100% of my time to work. I am self-inspired if I have to do it.

What are the qualities required to succeed in your form of work?

First of all time management is important because in our type of work there are a lot of due dates. As a CA we have a lot of due dates of income tax, MCA, Ministry of Public Affairs files and GST files, therefore, you need to manage your time well. And we should also pay attention to all the details.

What do you consider as your greatest achievement in your career?

My biggest achievement is building my practice from 0 to 350 clients. It includes various sectors like private limited companies, partnerships, proprietorship, individuals, high network individuals and a lot of people I cater to.

What are the most significant factors you consider while catering to your clients?

While catering to the client’s needs the most important thing is to learn about clients’s businesses, need to know what the client is into, how he operates, only then we can give them a solution for whatever they have come for. They come for various needs, it might be an audit or it can be various terms in charted accountancy. First of all, I try to understand the purpose they have come for, pay attention to all the details I need to know like what the company is into or the person is into. Only by studying their business I can give them a solution, advise them or give them whatever they have come to me for.

Who or what is that constantly inspires you?

What inspires me is my own self-motivation. I don’t get inspired by anyone. But I do get inspired by woman entrepreneurs who have achieved great heights in their life. I am also a family-oriented person,I can also maintain a balance between work and life.

What is the role played by your family in your pursuit of a demanding profession?

My family has been very supportive of whatever I do. During the year ending CAs become very busy because of the audits, taxation, and filing of returns. All those things start from June to September. It is the busiest time of the year and my family has been very supportive throughout. At home also my mother in law and my husband Sailesh support me. My husband is also a CA and he helps me at work sometimes. And of course, my son also gives me his small pieces of advice at times. They are my biggest support, without them I would not have reached where I wanted to reach today. If one doesn’t have that support from family it is very difficult to achieve their dreams.

How do you maintain work-life balance?

When you are your own Boss, you can decide the time when you want to meet your clients and they meet you depending upon your convenience.  In my case If I’m busy at home, I can ask them to meet me later. If my son needs me at home I manage to be available for him whenever he needs me. As I said I have a small number of clients and I give them the best service. That is the reason I maintain small clients so that I can be available for my family also.

Is there one thing that you wish to change about your professional past?

If I was given an opportunity to develop my personality before I joined BNI in 2007 I would have been in a better place by now.

What is your advice to young and aspiring CAs?

Leading a CA profession itself is a huge task. Once you become a charted accountant you just have a bookish knowledge but you don’t have practice. So the advice I have to give them is to choose whether you want to practice or work. If you want to practice you need to have a lot of patience as initially, you won’t get many clients. You need to have that patience to stick on, to work hard, to pay attention to all details and should have good communication skills. As I said earlier, if I have to go back to my younger self I would have changed myself. This is for all my aspiring younger CAs please communicate, come out of your comfort zone, network with more people and have a lot of patience. Have perseverance and patience if you haven’t practiced, the job is not an issue at all, go ahead and do it. But if the practice is your aim then you need to have all these qualities to be successful.

Home / Blogs / Chase Your Dreams | An inspiring story by G Krishna Kumar, CEO & MD, HearFon

Kindly share a few words about your journey?

My journey started 25 years ago. After I passed out of college in Mumbai, I came to Bangalore. At that point of time, there were not many jobs available. So then I thought why not start my own venture and that’s how I am in this field.

What is the turning point in your life?

The turning point of my life I would be this year when we partnered with Apollo Clinics to open around 30 centers across India. We grew from 6 to 36 clinics in a span of six months and we are thankful to the Apollo Clinics for giving us an opportunity to scale up our operations.

Which is that one lesson you have learned as a student?

Life has been a great teacher but how I remember one of my teachers? I was weak in Hindi. When I used to go for Hindi tuition, there was one teacher who came and asked me do I know something, at that point of time I was worried about facing the class and said yeah, I do know. Suddenly, that teacher walked away from there and then my class teacher entered the classroom. She told me you didn’t know Hindi but still, you said you know it and that is the reason why your teacher walked out if you had told that you don’t know then that teacher would have taught you a lot of things. Then I realized I should say no or I don’t know if I actually do not know. That is one thing I would say I learned as a student.

To succeed as an entrepreneur in this age and time, what qualities do you think is required?

I would say that you must have all the qualities bond into one. You must be a boss, you must be willing to roll up your sleeves and do the work., you need to lead a team, you need to do out of box thinking, you need to be on your toes all the time. It can not mean that you are an entrepreneur and you can sit in your office. You need to be on the field, you need to be with the team, you need to be supportive and you need to be there for your clients as well.

Give an example when you thought outside the box, how it benefited your company?

I would say every day is a challenge for me and it does require out of box thinking, especially the last six months when we have scaled out from 6 centers to 36 centers with Apollo. It requires lot of out of box thinking, strategic relationships and a lot of homework to do so. I would say every day is a challenge for me.

Tell us more about the hearing aids?

About 10% of the world population has a hearing loss of different ranges. But hearing loss is something which is very much neglected. Probably because of the social stigma which is associated with it. People lose almost seven years of their time in approaching us for help. At HearFon, we run a lot of awareness programs, we go to the rural areas to do a lot of camps to encourage people to come forward and we help them in identifying and rehabilitation of hearing problems. We also try to create awareness among the school children through painting competitions, infographics, writing blogs and Facebook posts to create awareness about the hearing problem.

How HearFon has shaped patients’ lives for better?

Listen to life! At HearFon whatever actions or whatever rehabilitative process that we are providing will enable the patient to listen to life once more. Patients usually lose around seven years of their time in accepting and acknowledging that they have a hearing loss and for coming to us for help. So in these seven years of time they would have lost connection with their family members, social life and they are more in isolation therefore at HearFon we would enable them to listen to life again.

Can you tell us something about your team?

We have a large team spread across different centers in India. As we are growing, we have a lot of engagement programs. Some of the team members have been with me for the last several years.

Tell me an incident where you were persistent in the face of obstacles?

As I said earlier every day is a challenge. Every day I have to be facing obstacles but I never allowed obstacles to come in the way of my dreams so I persistently worked for it. And I have always seen that if the intentions are good all the forces in the world will try to help me and support me.

Have you ever caught up in a scenario where work-life has more influence over your personal life?

I would like to confess that it has always been the case.  I would like to thank my family, my wife and my children for all the support and encouragement that they had given me all these years. Probably, I had not spent much time with my family as I do with the clinic.

What is the most rewarding thing for you? Any particular incident you want to share?

There has been a lot of incidents where we have seen patients been helped by our hearing aids and rehabilitation processes. But one incident that I cannot forget is, several years back a young couple came for a consultation with a baby who was around three months old. They suspected a hearing loss and when we did a hearing test , there was an interior hearing loss. We prescribed them a hearing aid and at that point of time, the baby was only three months but in spite of an early age. The parents went ahead with the recommendations, fitted a hearing aid for the baby, came for regular therapy classes and we were able to see a remarkable change in the way baby went on to speak. We were able to see the entire process, the baby growing up into a child, into an adult and now he is 18 years old. We have seen the remarkable transformation the hearing aids and technologies got into his life. So when we look back at his life and think of the entire journey from being a baby to an adult it gives us a lot of encouragement and happiness.

Do you think parents enforce their ideologies on children to choose their careers?

Nowadays yes, but I would say that parents are also realizing that they would need not or no longer enforce their views on their children. As far as my kids are concerned I allowed them to go the way they want to or choose the profession they want to. I did not force them to get into the same field.

What is your advice to the younger generation and to those who are pursuing audiology?

My advice to the younger audiologists would be to embrace change, to be more patient, to look forward to more challenges and to think long term.

Home / Blogs / Graphic Design Trends to Hype Up Your Brand

Brand design is probably one of the most important aspects of branding that must be considered. Your brand must feature quality designs, as eye-catching visuals can significantly enhance the message you are trying to send. However, this is not the only thing you will gain from quality designs. Today, we are going to talk about some of the most popular graphic design practices that you too can use to your advantage. However, before we do that, let’s first see why graphic design is so important and which benefits it can bring.

Why is Graphic Design so Important?

Before you learn about the latest trends you need to follow, it’s essential to understand the benefits of memorable visuals. Here are some of the top reasons why design is so important – bear in mind that these are just some of the benefits we think are most important.

1. Increased Sales

Carefully tailored design pieces can directly drive sales up. When consumers see unique designs, they are attracted to them. Making an emotional connection with customers makes them more open to dealing with a business.

This can be done through a funny visual or something sophisticated that inspires trust. No matter if we are talking about the design on products, logo design, or business cards, it can contribute to more sales.

  1. Helps Establish the Name of the Company

Great design can also help a business get its name out there. For example, people remember some companies for their brand story and unique product packaging, not their names. This is because of their incredible designs. Similarly, people interact with business cards, websites, and advertisements.

  1. Allows You to Convey Your Brand Message

All successful brands have a clear message. Graphic design can be used to convey this message in a more meaningful way and reach the desired customers. It can be used to show emotion, intent, and show potential customers what they can expect.

  1. Helps You Establish Yourself in the Market

In many different industries, customers will give companies with excellent visuals and aesthetics a chance. These designs can help customers with building trust in the brand, its products, or services. Quality visual elements appeal to human senses and subconsciously make people more open towards a specific business.

  1. Brings Everyone Together

When various company visuals surround employees, they will be greatly affected by them. This might seem as unimportant, but a solid logo and unique colour scheme help establish company culture and company identity. This is how everyone will be brought together and become more engaged with the brand.

Now let’s see what the best ways to use graphic design for branding are. These are the essentials that will help you make the most of your visuals.

Company Logo

Your business logo is the face of your company. It’s the most exposed design element of your brand, and it plays a vital role in how people will perceive it. It sets the tone for your whole brand and leaves an important first impression.

Your logo will be on your website, your ads, business cards, social media, and every other element of your business. An eye-catching and exciting logo can tell people what your business is about and help them remember you.

Business Cards

Many common types of uninspired business cards have no relevance whatsoever. On the other hand, certain cards can have an impact on people’s decision to contact an organization. What’s the difference?

The difference, of course, is in the design of the business card. You might think that business cards are outdated, but they still matter if appropriately designed.

They contain all the essential information about your brand, your name, logo, contact details, and your address. This small piece of promotional material can help build your brand image if it looks compelling and visually pleasing.

Custom-Designed Ads

If you plan on promoting your business through Google ads, Instagram, Facebook, or some other platform, it’s essential to consider customized designs. Online ads are usually really small and have a specific area where they are displayed. This means that they need quality visuals to attract attention.

At the same time, they need to be easy to read and highly visible. With this in mind, all the elements on your ads, including font size, font style, logo, and all the background graphics need to be adequately adjusted.

Social Media Images

Social media platforms are valuable marketing tools. However, there is a lot of other businesses looking to promote their brands on these platforms. This means that it can be challenging to stand out from the rest and get noticeable results.

This is where quality images come into play. With good graphic design, you can create engaging images which you can share on social media and get better results. In most cases, social media users will give your post a second of their time. If you can’t get them interested at that moment, you won’t get the results you wanted.

Graphic Design for Mobile Devices

In the online world, mobile users are a category of their own. It would be best if you gave them the attention they deserve. A lot of mobile users will visit your social media profiles and your website. They must have the same level of user experience as desktop users.

Ensure that all your graphic designs are mobile-friendly for both iOS and Android users. This also includes your online ads. It’s important that all your visuals are designed to provide readability and visibility to mobile users as well.

Designing Your Landing Pages

Every modern business organization needs a website. It doesn’t matter if you don’t sell products or services directly on your site, it still has to look great. Many potential customers will find your business online, and you need to make a good first impression if you want them to stick around.

Your landing page design can mean the difference between visitors leaving instantly or staying to learn more about your business. A good landing page allows you to prove yourself to potential customers.

Designing for Your Target Audience

No matter what kind of designs we are talking about, they should be created with your target audience in mind. Your visual content must appeal to your target audience.

Consider the demographics, interests, preferences, financial, and cultural background of your target audience. This is how you can understand what kind of graphics style will appeal to them the most.

Seek Help from the Best Graphic Design Company

With all this in mind, it’s clear how important graphic design is for your brand. Luckily, there are many graphic design companies you can get in touch with to take care of your graphic design needs. Regardless of your brand design needs, you can rely on the AWA (Artwork Adobe) team to help you out.

Home / Blogs / Creative Subject Lines From Top Brands

Stellar email subject lines are the key to successful marketing campaigns. Because they determine whether the recipient will consider opening the email, it is necessary to pay attention to some common tricks to attract their attention. Note, however, that click baits don’t equal good subject lines; they are more likely to create the exact opposite effect… for the most part.

Email open rates are directly linked to irresistible subject lines. Statistics show that 47 percent of recipients decide whether to open an email solely on the attractiveness of the subject line, whereas 69 percent of recipients report an email as spam based on the same criteria.

As holds true for everything else when it comes to attracting attention (in a positive way!), the best email subject lines address people’s curiosity and are witty, but they also appeal to fears, greed and vanity… and some other personality traits, too.

Don’t Miss Out!

The very first and foremost urge to open an email is triggered by a “don’t miss out” subject line. Keywords to additionally boost recipients’ curiosity go along the lines of “limited time offer,” “important,” “breaking” and similar options. Anything from “Tonight only: a denim lover’s dream” (Guess) to “Your 7-figure plan goes bye-bye at midnight…” (Digital Marketer) will do the trick. Discounts and promotions also fall into this category.

Witty Subject Lines

Email subject lines are similar to remarks. If they make recipients entertained, chances are, they will follow through. When a joke is good, everyone wants to hear the end. Emails work in the exact same way. Some of the most successful email marketing campaigns relied on this strategy. From Groupon’s “Deals that make us proud (unlike our nephew Steve)” to Eater Boston’s “Where to drink beer right now” (Sent at 6:45 am on a Wednesday)”, numerous marketers made it big using this simple principle.

Addressing Urgency

Some situations call for immediate action whether we aye or nay. In actual fact, most effective email marketing campaigns know how to address such issues just in time, as well as how to follow up to keep their customer base continually happy. In short, you should know how to solve customers’ problems, and the best way to do that is to keep researching common scenarios. Some examples include campaigns from the food industry, furniture companies, educators and businesses offering cheap alternatives. I.e., Uber had a cheesy open-ended subject line “Since we can’t all win the lottery…”, while HP advised to “Stop wasting money on ink.” Pizza Hut tried to be both funny and practical with the line “Feed your guests without breaking the bank”.

Getting to the Point

Wittiness and urgency are fine and all, but let’s not forget that not actually giving a glimpse into the contents of the email is likely to get your messages flagged as spam. Even tackling recipients’ curiosity has its limits. You have a great offer and you know it; therefore, there is no reason why the recipient shouldn’t learn it as well, in a straightforward manner, to boot.

The most important thing to keep in mind here is to not forget to always deliver on your promise. One mishap and your business will lose recipients’ trust. Not good!

Whenever you have something important to say, say it out loud and follow up with more detailed info and a simple way how to get to the actual reward (which usually translates into a call to action and an appropriate link).

Some incredible examples show that messages titled “Yes, this is a fundraising email” have open rates between 60 and 87 percent. In addition, emails often wrongly observed as having “boring” opening lines also stand a fair chance to be read through. Some examples include “[Company Name] Sales and Marketing Newsletter” and “Happy Holidays From [Company Name]”.

Everyone Deserves a Second Chance, Including Your Marketing Campaign

If you, perchance, didn’t start off on the right foot, don’t despair. The curious marketing invention called “retargeting” is known to have done marvels in that regard. If the recipient abandoned the cart, simply send them a reminder. In such cases, subject lines should offer a better deal or remind the recipient that a limited time offer won’t be out there forever.

Some stellar subject lines of retargeting emails include “Good news: your pin’s price dropped!” (Pinterest), “Hey, forget something? Here’s 20 percent off” (Bonobos) and “Did you miss out on some of these new features?” (Bonobos).

Subject Line Keywords Matter

For once, keywords are meant for actual people, not for Google. The list of keywords in subject lines likely to prompt the recipient to read through is long and insightful. Fortunately, it is also predictable, for the most part. Here’s a glimpse.

An analysis undertaken by Alchemy Worx, which took into account some 21bn emails by 2,500 brands, shows that the most efficient keywords are actionable. Thankfully, this also ties into a nice Call to Action at the end of the email!
